Paris Trip - June 2010

Categories: School News School Trips

Following a long established tradition in St Ninian’s, a group of second and third year pupils, accompanied by staff, spent the last week of June on an educational and cultural visit to Paris.

After a short and pleasant flight we arrived at our destination, My Travel Explorers’ Hotel, Disney, which was surrounded by beautiful parkland. In the course of the week we sampled a variety of French food from the buffet. The pain au chocolat proved to be a big hit. Some people ate LOADS of them!

Throughout the week we visited all the famous Parisian sights. As usual, the trip up the Eiffel Tower proved extremely popular and we were fortunate enough to be able to eat a picnic lunch in the sun, below the tower. We all posed for photos before relaxing on a Bateau Mouche on the river Seine. The guided commentary kept us entertained.

On the second day we headed for the Sacré Coeur where we admired the beautiful stained glass windows. After climbing all the steps to Montmartre we were ready for refreshments in the Place du Tertre where we were able to practise our French in the local cafés. We were even able to use our negotiating skills to buy J’adore Paris sweatshirts … we got a real bargain! Some of us were brave enough to have our portraits painted by local artists.

The following day we were very impressed by Notre Dame, where we lit candles for our friends and families at home. We enjoyed another picnic lunch, this time by the fountains outside the Centre Pompidou. We had another opportunity to practise our French when buying souvenirs in the square nearby. After lunch, it was exciting rushing to catch a métro to the Musée d’Orsay, where we had to answer quiz questions about paintings and sculptures. It was thirsty work… just as well there was a café! Before heading back to the hotel that evening we had our dinner in a city centre restaurant where birthday cakes had been provided for the three birthday girls, Kiera, Tanya and Catriona. C’était délicieux! We all sang Happy Birthday in French and the other diners were very impressed.

One of the highlights of our trip was the day in Disney. The most popular rides were Thunder Mountain, Indiana Jones and Space Mountain. They were a bit scary but a real thrill!

Our time in Paris came to an end too quickly. It was an unforgettable holiday and we all want to go back again next year.
