In session 2016-17 we offer the following courses to our Modern Studies students:

S1-S3 we offer a broad general education which develops students understanding and application of citizenship through a study of key issues at home and abroad.

Some of the topics covered will be:

· Local Decision Making and Elections

· Human Rights

· Gun Control in the USA

· Middle East

· Developing World

Students will continue a broad general education which will also look to articulate between the Outcomes and Experiences of level 4 and the skills of the new National Qualification.

Some of the topics covered will be:

o Comparing Systems - USA vs China


The lower school Modern Studies experience has been designed to prepare you for national 4/5 and beyond.

In S4 pupils will be presented for Nationals 3, 4 or 5 studying the following topics -

  • Government and Decision-making in Scotland
  • Social Inequality in the UK
  • World Issues - Terrorism


In S5 and S6 we offer:

Higher Modern Studies

Advanced Higher Modern Studies
