Headmaster – Dr William Barry

Jan 4th, 1943

‘School reopened this morning at 9.30am. 19 infants were admitted & 11 pupils from Holy Cross, Croy were enrolled in Secy. Dept.’


Jan 12th

‘Examined Miss McHale’s class, Primary 4, in Poetry, Reading Drawing & Singing.’


Jan 14th

‘Mr Ferguson, 28 Strathblane Rd., Milngavie appointed temporary janitor pending appointment of successor to Mr Callaghan due to retire on 17th Jany. 1943.’


Jan 15th

‘Mr Callaghan finished with school today (Friday): was given presents of sums of money from Cleaners, Pupils and Staff in appreciation of his faithful and efficient service for over sixteen years as janitor.’


Jan 27th

‘Examined Py 3a in Geogy., Mental, Compn., Citizenship, Music. Mr Mathewson resumed at 11.30am with right hand bandaged because of poisoning. Sent out to parents their children’s dictation books from classes Py 4 and Py 3a and requested note of co-operation.’


Jan 28th

‘Received notes from nearly every parent respecting child’s progress and work submitted, with promise of co-operation in supervision at night of home study.’


Jan 29th

Miss McKay and Miss Buchanan, psychologists, here all day. Miss McKay examined special case in 1e, and several infants.’


Feb 2nd

‘Reported accident to infant, who had had his right hand bitten by dog inside railings of fence across from school. Notified police.’ Mr Gibson & Mr Gibb – Depute Architect – were here in afternoon regarding need for assistant janitor in this school.’


Feb 4th

‘Mr Brison, Supervisor of Physical Education, was here all day seeing classes in Gymnasium.’


Feb 5th

‘Mr Miller, H.M.I. came at 9.20am and remained until 4.20pm during which he examined Art, saw class IIa & others. In afternoon he examined Benchwork and saw class IIc at work.’


Feb 10th

‘Janitor reported choked drains leading out of Kitchen of School Canteen. Headmaster absent from 10.15am until lunch-time attending meeting of Governors of Springboig Approved School.’


Feb 11th

‘Miss Murray, H.M.I. of Needlework called here and remained until after 12 noon examining in Domestic Science Department. The Annual Religious Inspection of all classes in Infants, Primary and Secondary Divisions (First and Second Years) was held today. Very Rev. Canon Doyle, Frs. Courteney, Ashe, McDonald, Douglas & Plunkett examined the classes. The inspection took place from 1pm and finished by 2.30pm when Infants and Primary Pupils were dismissed owing to inclement weather. Secondary pupils resumed during sixth period and finished at end of seventh period.’


Feb 12th

‘Mr Miller, H.M.I. was here from 9.30am today until 4.30pm. He examined classes in Art – IIa & IV: Benchwork with IIc, and commented on the good discipline of pupils and tone of the school.’


Feb 19th  

‘Mr J. Stevenson called re stock for Rest Centre and an inventory of same.’


Feb 25th

‘Competition for oatmeal products was won by Teresa Turley, IId.’
