May 4th

‘This School reopened today after the Easter holidays. Miss McHugh, who had been absent for some time through sore foot, resumed today.’

 

May 7th

‘Headmaster absent attending meeting of Scottish National Advisory Council on Education in Edinburgh.’

 

May 10th

‘Mr Bremner H.M.I. called and inspected Latin classes today. Miss Maureen Maguire, student from the Training College, Dowanhill is here practising teaching for this week.’

 

May 11th

‘Photographs of classes taken today.’

 

May 12th

‘Rev. Dr. Vincent, S.N.D., Mistress of Method was here today seeing the student teach.’

 

May 13th

‘Miss Leitch H.M.I. visited this School today for modern language inspection.’ Dr Cowan, School Medical Officer, was here all day inspecting pupils.’

 

May 15th

‘Miss O’Connor H.M.I. and Mr Christie H.M.I. were here today and examined all Secondary Classes in English. Dr Cowan here, also Mr Paton (Art).’

 

May 24th

‘In connection with “Wings for Victory” Week effort, Mr Rutherford, Convener of County Council, and Mrs Fletcher, wife of Provost J. Fletcher, addressed pupils in Assembly Hall this afternoon. School gave gift of Five Guineas to Mrs Fletcher for effort in memory of all the former pupils at present in the R.A.F. Prizes for a poster competition in connection with this project were given to pupils throughout the School.’

 

May 27th

‘Sent classes down in charge of teachers to Regent Gdns to inspect the Blenheim Bomber on exhibition there.’

 

May 31st

Sent to Director estimate of rolls for next session viz. Infants 205, Primary 385, Secy 375 [Total] 965.’

 

June 3rd

‘Ascension Day – Church Holyday.’

 

June 4th 

‘Golden Jubilee of dedication of St. Ninian’s Church. Granted a holiday by local S.M. Committee. First Communion today.’

 

June 9th

‘Mr Hyslop H.M.I. called today. Mr Edmund (Music) here also.’

 

June 10th

‘Commander Helen Campbell came here at 11.30am to address the senior girls.’

 

June 17th

‘Fr. Meyjes, Chaplain, H.M.S. “Renown” called in afternoon and addressed the pupils in Hall.’

 

June 28th 

‘Miss Shearer took pupils to Art Galleries this afternoon: French exhibition.’

 

June 29th

‘Church Holyday. School closed.’

‘School closed today until 5th Augt. Av. Roll for session 913: evacuees 100.’
