Pupil Council

The purpose of Pupil Councils is to allow pupils to express opinions on and influence the life of the school.

Pupil Councils will be set up for each year group from S1 – S5. They will consist of two representatives from each Support Learners class, elected by the class. Where possible there should be one boy and one girl from each class.

Meetings of Pupil Councils will take place throughout the year and dates have been entered on the school calendar.

The agenda for all meetings will be set by the DHT with responsibility for Pupil Support and issued in advance of the meetings. Pupils can of course raise other issues as required.

One member of the Pupil Support Department will attend each meeting. The DHT for the year group will also attend the meetings.

Two prefects will be assigned to each Pupil Council – one will act as chair of the meeting and the other will take a minute of the meeting.

The link member of the Pupil Support Department will ensure that the minutes are copied to all Pupil Council members, to SMT and to all Principal Teachers.

Supporting Learners teachers are asked to allow Pupil Council members to read out the minutes from the meeting during the SL class.

Action to be taken as a result of issues raised at the Pupil Councils will be the responsibility of the DHT. Minutes will be discussed at an SMT meeting.

Two members from each Pupil Council will be nominated to form the School Council.
