The work of the Pupil Council is led by Mrs S Boyle (DHT) and Mrs P Stafford (PT Guidance). The purpose of Pupil Councils is to allow pupils to express opinions on and influence the life of the school.
Pupil Councils will be set up for each year group from S1 – S5. They will consist of two representatives from each Support Learners class and a Guidance Teacher.
Meetings of Pupil Councils will take place throughout the year and dates have been entered on the school calendar.
Each meeting will focus on one of the themes for self-evaluation in the Wee HGIOS, a document produced by Education Scotland to help young people play a key role in their school’s improvement.
An agenda with the Wee HGIOS theme and other relevant items will be set by Mrs Boyle and Mrs Stafford. There will be an opportunity for representatives to discuss any other relevant business.
Supporting Learners teachers are asked to allow Pupil Council members to read out the minutes from the meeting during the SL class. Minutes will be discussed at an SMT meeting and action to be taken as a result of issues raised at the Pupil Councils will be the responsibility of the relevant DHT.
Two members from each Pupil Council will be nominated to form the School Council.”
The purpose of the School Council is similar to that of the Pupil Council but it also allows pupils from across all year groups to come together to share ideas.
The School Council will consist of two members from each year group Pupil Council. They will be nominated by the Pupil Council. The school Head Boy and Head Girl will also be part of the School Council. The Headteacher will be part of the School Council and will chair the meetings.
Meetings of the School Council take place throughout the year and dates are shown on the school calendar.
The agenda for all meetings will be prepared by the Headteacher and will mainly focus on feedback from the Pupils Councils. Captains will also make a report to the School Council.
Minutes will be taken by one of the Head Boy and Head Girl. The Headteacher will then ensure that these are copied to all School Council members and to SMT and Principal Teachers.
The Headteacher will be responsible for ensuring that action is taken as a result of the School Council meetings as appropriate. The minutes will be discussed at an SMT meeting.
